This 2020 End of the Second World War £5 is an official UK coin to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. It was produced in collaboration with Imperial War Museums (IWM) and designed by Matthew Dent and Christian Davies.
After Victory in Europe (VE) Day, attention turned to the Far East where Japan still had to be defeated. Prime Minister Clement Attlee announced the news at midnight on 14 August, declaring a two-day public holiday beginning with Victory over Japan (VJ) Day.
The 2020 End of the Second World War £5 captures the magnitude of events with a design inspired by stone inscriptions on war memorials. It is available as a Brilliant Uncirculated Coin, Silver Proof Coin (Limited Edition 2,575), Silver Proof Piedfort Coin (Limited Edition 565) and Gold Proof Coin (Limited Edition 225).
