This 2021 The Griffin of Edward III £5 completes the line-up of ten heraldic beasts present at Her Majesty The Queen’s coronation in 1953.
A Guardian of Gold combining lion and eagle, the griffin is a beast more powerful than either alone. Known as a treasure guardian and talisman, it was adopted as a royal beast by Edward III, the medieval king who founded the Order of the Garter at Windsor Castle.
Both sides of the coin have been designed by acclaimed designer Jody Clark and finished to Brilliant Uncirculated standard. You can explore the history of the griffin in the coin’s bright, fold-out packaging.
Available as Brilliant Uncirculated in a presentation pack you can also purchase a range of different limited-edition gold and silver Proof editions. These include Silver Proof Coin (Limited Edition 4,400), Silver Proof Coin (Limited Edition 290), Gold Proof Coin (Limited Edition 1,240), Ten-Ounce Silver Proof Coin (Limited Edition 140), Silver Proof Kilo Coin (Limited Edition 70), One Ounce Gold Proof Coin (Limited Edition 500), Five-Ounce Gold Proof Coin (Limited Edition 115) and Gold Proof Kilo Coin (Limited Edition 10).
