This 2020 Chinstrap Penguin 50p is the first in a new series features of four Penguins on behalf of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands Government.
This penguin is named after the band of dark feathers under its chin, which looks like a strap keeping their hat on. The largest colony on the uninhabited South Sandwich Islands of Zavodovski hosts approximately 1.2 million breeding pairs of Chinstrap Penguins.
This 50p coin is available as a Coloured Cupro Nickel Diamond Finish limited to just 2500. The coin is sold in a capsule inside a blue pouch however you can buy a 2020 Penguins Collector’s Album which holds the four penguin designs in crown shaped Capsules.
As well as the Chinstrap Penguin the others in the series will be the Gentoo Penguin, Macaroni Penguin and King Penguin.
